Our property is over a mass of clay called “Cascajo”, product of incredible explosions of the Rincon de la Vieja and Miravalles volcanoes more than 10,000 years ago. This land consists of clay (silicone and quartz) that resembles scenery very similar to the Arizona desert. We are a unique hotel from where you will be able to enjoy the real "GUANACASTE DESERT".

With 14,000 hectares, the Rincon de la Vieja National Park is cradle of the most important hydrographic river basin of Guanacaste, originating innumerable rivers and ravines of pure and crystalline water that invite you to practice hiking. From the Ranger Station, it is 8 Km hiking until the summit of the crater. It takes about 3:30 hours one way.
From Las Pailas, 6 Kms towards Santa Maria, there are three different pools of sulfured spring thermal waters and a cold water stream. You can take a bath in this mineral waters moving to the cold water and back to the hot water in a totally natural atmosphere. It takes about 3 hours one way from the Ranger Station.
Hiking from 600 mts.a.s.l until 2.000 mts.a.s.l, discover in one day the great biodiversity in the Dry Tropical Forest, Transitional Tropical Forest, Humid Tropical Forest, Rainy Tropical Forest, Cloud Tropical Forest and the Desert within the Rincon de la Vieja National Park.
This is an area with the most volcanic action you can see in Guanacaste. You will find hot springs, sulfured lagoons, mud pots, geysers, natural steam baths and small volcanoes in constant eruption, besides the wildlife you will see everywhere. It takes approximately 2 hours round trip from the Ranger Station.
It is a 90 feet high waterfall, whose lagoon is totally blue due to the sulfur in the water. You can swim and relax in this wonderful natural paradise. The access is only by foot and takes 2 hours one way from the Ranger Station.
This is the highest of nine eruptive craters that conforms the mountain of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. From the top you can observe at the same time the great Lake of Nicaragua and the Papagayo Gulf. It takes 3:30 hours one way hiking from the Ranger Station.
This is the only crater in continuous volcanic activity basically of water and gases. The hike is a constant discovery of different types of flora and fauna. The elevation, climate, and, temperature differences makes great variation in the wildlife. It takes 3:30 hours one way from the Ranger Station.
This is an old house that exists from the Guanacaste of the XIX century. Today it is a museum of photography, hand tools, old farm gears, and insect collection. The trail through the Wet Forest takes about 4 hours one way by foot from the Ranger Station.
There are three waterfalls of approximately 210 feet high. Their waters are so pure and crystalline that you can see the bottom of the lagoon of three meters of depth. Those are located in the southwestern slope of the active crater with about 3,600 mts. a.s.l. It takes about 2 hours one way from the Ranger Station.
