Hike to the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano This 8km hike (aprox. 5 miles) starts at the park ranger station and ends at the crater of the active volcano. It lasts about 3 hours depending on the ability of the hikers. The route goes through 6 different tipes of forests. During the ascent, many wild animals can be observed such as the aggutti, coati, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, and many birds of the zone.
Once the base of the volcano is reached, the hike becomes more intense and exciting as hikers walk through a narrow edge with amazing views of Nicaragua Lake. It is not recommended to spend too much time near the volcano due to its gas emissions that are not safe to inhale in large amounts.
This activity includes transportation and local guides who are knowledgeable about the area and are a great help during the hike. Lunch is included and consists of a sandwich, fruit, a cookie, and a water bottle. Entrance to the National Park where the volcano is located is $10 per persona, and there is a $2 fee to cross through private property.
